Praava Health is building Bangladesh’s fastest growing consumer healthcare brand. We are raising the bar for healthcare in Bangladesh with a fully vertically integrated network of outpatient health centers powered by international-standard doctors, diagnostics, and technology.

Nearly 170  million people live in Bangladesh, making it one of the world’s most populous countries and densely populated markets. Bangladesh is also one of the fastest growing economies in the world and has been dubbed the next Asian tiger by the World Economic Forum, The Economist, and others. A dynamic, growing middle class of 30+ million people – 25% of the population – has already propelled Bangladesh to “middle-income” status. 

Social infrastructure and healthcare are still lagging dramatically behind the rapidly growing economy. The public health system is understaffed and over-stretched, with only 1% private health insurance saturation (covering primarily inpatient services). Private health facilities are best positioned to fill this gap. But pricing at private facilities is artificially inflated due to lack of competition, and quality is inconsistent. Urban middle-class patients face a healthcare system that is unreliable and hard to trust. Time with doctors is among the shortest in the world - an average of 48 seconds per patient. There is only one internationally-accredited lab in the country. And financial incentives at hospitals cause doctors to pressure patients into unnecessary procedures and hospitalization. As a result, 1,000-2,000+ middle-class Bangladeshis travel to India daily seeking better care and a better experience – and healthcare they can trust. 

We opened our first world-class health facility in downtown Dhaka last year and have already served tens of thousands of Patients in Dhaka. The flagship center already achieved EBITDA breakeven and is growing fast ( ~3x in revenues from 2018 to 2019). We are now poised to scale the Praava model nationally; we plan to roll out 30+ facilities in the coming decade, including 3 hubs and 25+ spokes to serve the urban middle class. We aspire to be Bangladesh’s trusted partner in health, empowering Patients to manage their health in a manner aligned with their values. We aim to establish the best healthcare company in Bangladesh. We are a small, impassioned, collaborative team that is inspired to build the best healthcare company in Bangladesh. 

The daily news reel is highlighting for everyone the need for increased investments in infrastructure required in healthcare all over the world, which is the problem we have been trying to address since founding Praava Health. During the crisis, we have been doing all that we can to serve our community. We are supporting the government's efforts as best we can with mobile phlebotomists who are collecting samples for the government's screening tests for COVID-19. Additionally, we are offering free telehealth screenings for all the patients in our community and our corporate clients, and have set up dedicated hotlines for some of our corporate clients. We were also the first private healthcare provider to support the government in its 333 hotline for COVID-19. We've also converted most in person consultations to videoconsults, and are busy developing tools to help to triage patients - both COVID+ and non-COVID patients - to reduce burden on hospitals as we prepare for COVID-19 to affect Bangladesh in a more meaningful way by the end of this month.

Potential projects:

  • Develop COVID-19 response for B2C strategy: Work with Praava’s Head of Marketing to review B2C product portfolio, create proposals to adapt products to address COVID-19 outbreak in Bangladesh (e.g., strategic pivot to telemedicine), and design a strategy to convert branding initiatives into revenue generation

  • Source global COVID-19 innovations: Research emerging innovations combating COVID-19 and propose initiatives which can be adapted for Praava’s use as an outpatient facility serving its patients as well as the broader population in Bangladesh

  • Harness COVID-19 funding opportunities: Work closely with CEO to research opportunities for Praava to tap into funding opportunities specific to combating COVID-19, and draft applications / proposals

  • Revamp Financial Model: COVID-19 strategy: Build strategic response to COVID-19 into financial model, including shifts in consumer market and competitive behavior, key changes in outpatient operating model, and pivot in B2C / B2B strategy

The interns will work under the guidance and supervision of a fellow working in the Office of the CEO, who has been seconded from Oliver Wyman, as well as the CEO and other members of Praava Health’s senior leadership team. 

We seek colleagues who are excited to help us build a new concept of healthcare. The Strategy Intern is enrolled in graduate school with a passion for global health and efficient care delivery, and also demonstrates:

  • Strong analytical skills and experience dealing with large volumes of data.

  • Experience collecting and analyzing data in healthcare settings is a plus.

  • Understanding of value based healthcare concepts is especially attractive.

  • Passion for innovations in medicine, particularly process efficiencies and technology.

  • Ability to listen with empathy and to communicate with respect.

  • Attention to detail and excellent writing and documentation skills.
